News Worth Celebrating!

Every 90 seconds a woman dies in childbirths somewhere in the world.

With a population of 10 million, Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. As a result, Haiti is the most dangerous country in the Western Hemisphere to give birth. Most of these maternal deaths are caused by eclampsia, sepsis, and postpartum hemorrhage (bleeding). In other words, most of these deaths are preventable!

In August of 2015, Nurse Timay began her journey to become a Skilled Birth Attendant (Midwife). She moved from her hometown Dèsarmes, to live in a town 2 hours away while participating in the program. She made the sacrifice, because of her passion and love for the women and families in her community.

On Sunday, September 18th, I had the honor to watch her walk across the stage to receive her certificate of completion. Timay is officially the first midwife in Dèsarmes, playing an essential role in our fight against maternal and infant mortality!

In addition to providing skilled prenatal, delivery and postnatal care to expectant mothers, she will also oversee the outreach programs for the community and teenage girls.

Thanks for your role, through prayer and financial support, in helping provide the first midwife in Dèsarmes, Haiti!
